Today was a big day for me!
I RAN MY FIRST 5K RACE!
It's a goal that I have been working towards for a really long time.
Since this post in May...
And this post in June...
I actually think I decided I wanted to learn to run clear back in January!
It's taken me a long time to get to this point partly because I was really out of shape and when I started I couldn't run for more than a minute (seriously) and mostly because I kept losing focus and stopped training several times.
Regardless, I finally got to the point that I can run 3.1 miles straight and I really think I could do more.
I now want to train for a 10K!
And I now ENJOY RUNNING! What?! Yes, that's right. I love running! (I never ever thought I would be saying that- EVER)
My alarm woke me up at 7:30am and I saw THIS white stuff outside the window (well without the darling little boy running through it). Crap, I thought. Followed by many other thoughts-
"It's going to be so cold"
"I don't want to run in the snow"
"I can just run some other time"
Then I told myself to shut up (as did Rob in a nicer way) and go run the thing.
Let me add as a side-note that Drake loved the snow! He thought it was the coolest thing ever. It's a brand new thing to him as he can't remember it from last year. You can see the footprints all over the place from him running through it. It was so magical to watch him taking it all in.
Can we say "BRRRRRR!"
It was really cold! Like snot running down my face cold.
I've never run in the cold so it did effect my time (as did my knee I hurt a few weeks ago running), but I wasn't going for time. My goal was to just run the whole thing.
The mountains look so pretty- I'm officially looking forward to winter.
My cute little supporter! It really made my day that Rob & Drake came to watch me.
Giving me a "funny kiss" which is his new cute thing. I look gross doing it, but I wanted to show how cute he is!
Rob has told me lots how proud he is of me and I kept saying that it wasn't that big of a deal- just 3 miles. After a few times of criticizing myself, he told me if I said that one more time that I would owe him a 30 minute back rub for every time I down-played my big accomplishment. haha
I'm so thankful for him for saying that to me. He's right. It's okay to be proud of yourself for reaching a goal you've set! As big or small as it may seem to others!
And so I can CRUSH it next time- my time was 31:27.
