For 10 days, Rob and Drake took off on a "Manly Man" vacation- meaning only the boys got to go and Mom had to stay home, being too pregnant to travel. :(
The downside to finding out several months ago that we were due in August was that our Hunsaker Family reunion was in July and therefore, I couldn't go. I am so sad I had to miss it- it looks SO amazing! Obviously though, it was important to stay home and take care of our little one growing and it's most definitely worth it. But, I hope the Hunsaker family knows how much I missed them!
Rob needed to work in Utah in July and help with a golf tournament my Dad was in charge of, so it worked out to head to Utah with Drake several days before the reunion and then fly from Utah to Florida for the reunion.- 10 days gone. Oh man, I missed them so much that I cried sometimes. It was a very relaxing time though being home by myself and I took advantage of it. But that was still a long time for them to be gone and I was very ready for them to come home at the end of their vacation.
They had such a fantastic time and Rob (and family) took some pictures to remember the fun trip. I even got him to take a second to narrate the pictures (thanks babe), so here's Robby -
When we got to Utah we went to visit Brooke and family while we were waiting to meet the Payne's in Layton for Katelyn's Birthday Dinner.
Drake & Paisley are best buds!
Katie's birthday dinner at Tepanyaki. Very excited to see G-pa Bob!
While we were in Utah for those few days before Florida, we were able to go down to the pond with the Payne's and Grandma and Grandpa Hunsaker. Drake loved it because we got to roast hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire, ride the four-wheeler, and, of course his favorite, shoot guns. Drake even learned how to cock the BB gun by himself and he thought that was pretty cool.
The next Day Grandpa Hunsaker took Drake on a long four-wheeler ride and Drake fell asleep on the way home....with his superman cape on and all.
While in Utah, Bob and I played in the BR cheerleader fundraiser golf tournament. Drake wasn't going to miss out on a day of golf and came to join us for a little bit.
While in Utah, we spent our days between Lindsay's parents house and my parent's house- so Drake got to see lots of his grandmas and grandpas and he loved it.
Sunday- the flight from Utah to Florida. We had to wake up early that morning in order to get to the airport and catch our flight. We were excited to find out that we would be on the same flight as Grandma and Grandma Hunsaker, as well as Chad and Jill's family. Once we finally landed in Florida, waited and waited for my niece Devanie's flight to arrive, and got our rental car, it didn't take Drake long to fall asleep (even Spiderman needs naps sometimes).
Drake also found Mickey while we were waiting for Devanie at the airport.
This was the view of the resort that we stayed at as we pulled up, and then the view from Tina's room. I would have to say that she had the best view- 5th floor, great view of the golf course and ocean.
Drake was thrilled to finally be done traveling and be able to play at this beach that he had been promised for so long. He was also excited to find out that the water was a lot warmer than our beach in California. Drake had a blast with his cousins and it didn't take him long to rekindle some relationships and create new ones with cousins that he didn't remember at all.
Drake was the most excited to see Collin and Lucy who are the closest cousins to him by age. They had a great time playing together at the beach, the pool, and the hotel rooms.
Blake brought this cool inflatable raft. The teenagers probably had the most fun on it, but Drake and I tried it out as well. Drake was awesome at trying new things at the beach, including boogie boarding. He was pretty nervous at first, but he got the hang of it and about wore me out while we were there.
It wasn't until the last day that we took advantage of the pool at the resort. Drake's favorites were the Lazy River and the Water Slide. He absolutely had a blast.
My brothers and I even found some time to go golfing. Nothing too fancy, but just some time for the 4 of us to hang out and enjoy each others company.
So, the main reason that we got together this year was not only to see all of our family members, but to celebrate my Mom and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary. One of the evenings that we were in Florida we went to a local LDS church and had a little talent night for Grandma and Grandpa. The night was full of singing, story telling, and of course, piano playing. Then at the end we presented them with a present that all of the kids and in-laws have been working on- a book with pictures and stories from their 50 years of marriage. Everyone in the family sent pictures and wrote letters and then Lindsay volunteered to put the book together. She spent hours upon hours putting it together and it turned out great. We hope they love it.
Some pictures of the family at the talent show (many taken by Drake)-
It was great to be with my family that we don't see often and the time went too fast. Soon, we were on our way home. We knew when we booked the flights, that the flight home was going to be an interesting one. Our flight left Orlando at 6:30pm and didn't arrive in Oakland until 11:00pm (which would be 2:00am for us because we were used to Eastern time) with a quick lay over in Salt Lake City. Drake was a great traveler though and watched movies and played games for most of the first flight and then just decided he was done and fell asleep in my arms. After that he stayed asleep for the rest of the trip. What a great kid.
Thanks Mom and Dad for the great trip and thanks to Ross and Elaine for planning the reunion, they did a great job. Chad took this great picture of Mom & Dad on the beach one night-
Thanks to everyone else for all the pictures as well.
