Well yesterday didn't go quite as expected...
We have been so excited to watch the Angel Moroni be put on top of our beautiful Brigham City Temple.
I woke up after only 3 hours of sleep from working the night before to get there early to get a good spot.
We met up with my cousin Julie & her kiddos, my family and mom, my cousin Whitney, Rob's sister Marianne and her family, and our friends the Forreys and Fords from Logan.
I've been teaching Drake to say "Temple" when we drive by it all the time. When we came walking up to it, he started yelling "de-ple, de-ple!" It was a proud mom moment. :)
We got there at 11:15 and were standing directly in front of the temple on the north side with a perfect view.
There was quite a bit of rain, but we still were happy with anticipation. Then the rain stopped and it got quite windy.
12:00 came and the temple workers moved the Angel Moroni onto a crane, lifted it up a few feet, and then stopped. We waited and waited, but it never kept moving.
Come to find out- they could not lift it into the air with such big winds.
We waited until 1:00pm and it just kept getting windier. I ran out of snacks. There was nowhere to sit. Drake got hungry and whiny, then whinier, and eventually started freaking out. The other kids were antsy and starving.
We asked a nearby worker if they would put it on the temple if the wind stayed the same. He said they weren't going to cancel it because there were so many people there to watch, but that they would not move it at all until the wind stopped. My cousin Julie checked the forecast on her phone and the forecast showed it was only going to get worse.
So...we made an executive (trying to be good parents) decision to leave and go eat and then come back. We thought we would easily make it back before anything happened. We thought for sure it would be hours.
Tons of people had the same idea and left as well. After lots of traffic, we got to Maddox and were seated, when someone got a text message that they were putting it up on the temple. Are you kidding me!?
At first, I was pretty bummed, but my mom said something that made me feel much better- that there are going to be so many more experiences that we'll be able to have at the Brigham Temple in the coming year. This is just one small step. We still have the dedication, celebration, and much more.
So after being angry and sad that we missed something I have been looking forward to for a long time, I quickly got over it and realized that sometimes you just have to take care of your kids and that everything is A-OK.
What we did see-
Above- the workers securing Angel Moroni. You can see how huge it is compared to the men.
In the end, it was actually a wonderful day spent with family and friends. We felt the amazing spirit of the temple in the air- it was exciting being there!

It was just awesome to be there with you. Honestly. I loved every second of it. And you said it perfectly -- sometimes the "being a good mom" thing means realizing basic needs have to take precedence over unique experiences sometimes.
And wow, it always shocks me how much the four of you (your mom, Staci, Hannah, and you) look like each other. Maybe if Katelyn was standing next to you, I'd say the 5 of you. Gorgeous -- every last one of you!
What a bummer! But like you said, you were doing what you needed too - being a good mom. The temple looks beautiful!!
I haven't seen any pictures of the Brigham temple, I always seem to miss things like that. It is beautiful! Such a bummer that you didn't get to see what you went there for, especially since you had such little sleep to get there. The end result is amazing though! Also I love all of your reunion pictures, that is such a fun place!
