Drake took his very first swimming lessons this last week! My cousin Chrystal teaches in my Aunt Christie's backyard pool and she taught a "Mommy & Me" class- it was such a FUN experience for us!
There were 2 completely different Drakes present at swimming lessons.
Monday & Tuesday= adventurous, excited, daring, happy Drake!
Wednesday & Friday= naughty, sleep-deprived, hitting, screaming, throwing fits, disobeying Drake (this explains why my brother Hunter is in some of these pictures. It was the only way we could get Drake to be in the water on the last day. He wanted nothing to do with mom.)
I honestly loved those first few days of swimming lessons and TRULY want to forget the last 2 days so let's just talk about how awesome Drake did on the good days.
Before swimming lessons, Drake was a little bit scared of the water and would hold onto me tightly in the pool. He could jump off the side of the pool with water wings and go under water a little bit, but immediately come up for air. He hated laying on his back in the water.
At swimming lessons he learned to:
-Blow bubbles for a long period of time
-Lay on his back in the water with mommy holding him
-Kick his legs really hard in the water to propel himself forward with Mom only holding his hands
-Jump off the side of the pool (without floaties), kick and swim to his tummy, and swim to mommy (all while under the water)
-Stay under water for several seconds
-Swim on his own from Chrystal to Mommy (about 5 feet away)
-Jump off the diving board, go under, and come up with a little help from Chrystal
-Jump off the step of the pool onto his tummy and swim forward to Mommy
-Have no fear of the water. We have to watch him very closely now!
Chrystal is SUCH an awesome swimming instructor and was so good with Drake and the other kiddos! We can't wait to take another session from her in June!
We'll make sure Drake gets plenty of sleep that week and we'll hope for HOT weather because I'm pretty sure that he was so ornery because he was cold. :)
Update 5/28/12- I just discovered that these swimming lessons are 8 days long, not just 4. So we have 4 fun more days this week! I'm a moron. haha. Let's hope this weeks goes better!

That is awesome! Ty starts in a couple of weeks, its not a mommy and me class though...so Im worried, I dont know how he will do. Drake is so cute! So glad that my kid isnt the only tantrum throwing, disobiediant one sometimes...;) ..also I cant help but notice that you look so thin, and you look great...how are you doing it?? I need to seriously start getting in shape again! Also your turquise and yellow suit?? Hapari??...I am wanting a new one and really like yours!
